PhotographyMy full time vocation is in the training and development field. I’ve worked in multiple technical and general settings, doing many projects in instructional design, classroom training, and training management. I have a B.A. in Social and Behavioral Sciences from The Ohio State University, and spent quite a while in the aviation industry. I obtained Private Pilot license in the early 90’s, and still like to fly from time to time. I’ve been in the training field for over 11 years, and love every aspect of it.
Some of my favorite aspects of both career and hobbies are learning new software, creative design, developing useful structures, and seeing an awesome product come through the whole process from conception to practical reality.
I've enjoyed photography since the mid-90’s when I took a beginners class while attending Ohio State. I learned the fundamentals using a Pentax manual film camera and doing darkroom film developing. We shot a lot of slide film in that class, and doing so really helped me learn the science of exposure. Since then I’ve self-taught by taking classes, working with others, and doing lots of reading and practice.
Over the years I’ve upgraded through different film SLR’s and eventually to the digital SLR I use today. I love digital, and enjoy both capturing and editing images, though the capturing part is still where I prefer to spend the bulk of my time. I use Canon EOS equipment; a Rebel XTi body and four lenses make up the core of my outfit.
I’ve done many kinds of photography, mainly nature/landscapes, travel, cityscapes, aerial work, some products, portraits, weddings, kids sports, various events, and others. My style is natural and realistic, and I like to use interesting perspectives in my images. I currently do professional work part time including portraits, events, and assignments. I’m available for a limited number of weddings, too.
My inspiration comes from a deep appreciation of life. I believe that photography is about capturing our ever-moving view in a single frozen moment of time, so that we can take the time to enjoy all that the subject is. It’s also about creating great art that reflects our lives and honors all that is wonderful, not the least of which is the creation we inhabit.
